TV Channel Overview
Établissement Public de Télévision (EPTV; المؤسسة العمومية للتلفزيون), also widely identified by the long-used ENTV name, is Algeria’s public
television organization headquartered in Algiers, Algeria. Its public-service
television network covers national news and current affairs alongside culture,
education, religion, youth programming, entertainment, history, and parliamentary
affairs. Arabic is used widely across the network, while French and Tamazight
also have established roles in particular services.
TV1 (الأولى) is a general-interest national channel, carrying news, public-affairs, cultural, entertainment, family, and other nationwide programming.
Canal Algérie (الجزائرية الثانية) combines news, culture, and entertainment and includes French-language news programming.
TV3 (الإخبارية) is the network’s news channel, with bulletins, reports, current-affairs programs, and coverage of national and international developments.
Amazigh TV4 (الأمازيغية) serves Amazigh-speaking audiences with programming centered on Tamazight language, culture, and identity.
TV5 (القرآن الكريم) concentrates on Quranic, religious, and Islamic cultural programming.
TV6 (الشبابية) is oriented toward younger audiences through cultural, social, sports, educational, and entertainment content.
TV7 (المعرفة) focuses on education and knowledge, including scientific, cultural, academic, and historical subjects.
TV8 (الذاكرة) is devoted to history, heritage, documentaries, and subjects connected with Algeria’s national memory.
TV9 (البرلمانية) covers parliamentary activity, including sessions, debates, legislation, and related public affairs.
Algeria took control of its television broadcasting establishment in 1962. Institutional restructuring led to the creation of the Entreprise nationale de télévision (ENTV) in 1986, followed in 1991 by its transformation into the Établissement Public de Télévision (EPTV) with a public-service mandate. The later development of specialized channels expanded the organization beyond a single national service into a network addressing different linguistic, cultural, educational, religious, historical, and civic areas.
