TV Channel Overview
ORTM (Office de Radio et Télévision du Mali) is Mali’s national public
radio and television organization, headquartered in Bozola, Bamako. It
operates public audiovisual services for audiences across the country,
combining news and public affairs with educational, cultural, social, sports,
and entertainment programming.
The organization took its current legal form and name in 2015, succeeding the Office de Radiodiffusion Télévision du Mali established in 1992. Television broadcasting in Mali had begun earlier, in 1983.
ORTM’s television services include ORTM 1 and ORTM 2. Both carry news and general programming, while ORTM 1 also presents public affairs, society, cultural, and other nationally focused content. On the radio side, ORTM operates Radio Mali, Radio Chaîne 2, and Radio Rurale, covering news alongside culture, literature, public information, sports, and community-oriented subjects.
French is widely used across ORTM’s output, together with Bambara (Bamanankan)
and other Malian languages. The broadcaster’s statutory mission includes
information, culture, education, entertainment, and the promotion of Mali’s
languages and cultural heritage.
