TV Channel Overview
Sudan TV (تلفزيون السودان) is Sudan’s national state television service, headquartered in Omdurman. Experimental broadcasting began in 1962, followed by regular television service in 1963. From an early operation serving the Khartoum area, the channel developed into a nationwide television outlet within Sudan’s state radio and television system.
News and public affairs form a central part of the schedule, alongside social, cultural, youth-oriented, and general entertainment programs. Arabic is the principal broadcast language. Current output includes news bulletins, interviews, discussion programs, and coverage of national institutions and public events. Religious content also appears in the schedule, particularly around Islamic occasions.
The conflict that began in 2023 severely damaged the national broadcasting complex in Omdurman and disrupted television operations. Sudan TV temporarily shifted broadcasting activities to Port Sudan. By 2026, live television broadcasts had resumed from the main Omdurman studios, while rehabilitation of the wider radio and television complex continued. These developments form part of the channel’s recent institutional history as it continues its national television service.
