TV Channel Overview

Tanzania Broadcasting Corporation (TBC) is Tanzania’s state-owned public service broadcaster, headquartered in Dar es Salaam. The corporation began operating in 2007, succeeding Tanzania Broadcasting Services, which had brought together the country’s earlier national radio and television operations. TBC provides television and radio services with a nationwide public-service role.

Its television portfolio includes TBC 1, TBC 2, and Tanzania Safari Channel. TBC 1 is the main national general-interest service, combining news and current affairs with educational, cultural, sports, and entertainment programming. TBC 2 has a stronger orientation toward younger audiences, with education, entertainment, sports, and youth-focused content forming an important part of its schedule. Tanzania Safari Channel is devoted to wildlife, tourism, natural heritage, and conservation-related programming, giving TBC a specialized television service centered on Tanzania’s landscapes and biodiversity.

Swahili is central to TBC’s television output, while English is also used in selected news and other programming. Across its television services, TBC combines national information and general programming with content focused on youth, education, culture, sports, and Tanzania’s natural heritage.
