TV Channel Overview

ZBC TV is the public television service of Zanzibar Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC), a state-owned broadcasting organization under the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar. Based at Karume House in Mnazi Mmoja, Zanzibar City, Mjini Magharibi Region, Tanzania, the channel serves audiences across Zanzibar with general-interest programming delivered mainly in Swahili, alongside some English-language output.

The television service traces its history to Television Zanzibar (TVZ), which began trial programming in 1973 and was formally inaugurated in 1974. The present Zanzibar Broadcasting Corporation was established in 2013, bringing Zanzibar’s public radio and television operations under the same organization.

ZBC TV carries news and public-affairs coverage together with educational, cultural, sports, religious, and entertainment programming. Current reporting gives substantial attention to the Zanzibar government, public institutions, community issues, development, and events across the islands, while also covering wider Tanzanian affairs. Its schedule continues the educational and public-information role that has been associated with television broadcasting in Zanzibar since the TVZ era.
