TV Channel Overview
CBC TV8 is an English-language national television channel operated by
the Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), Barbados’ statutory broadcasting
corporation. Based at The Pine in Saint Michael, Barbados, the channel
serves audiences across the country with local, regional, and international
programming, with particular attention to Barbadian news, public affairs,
culture, and national events.
The schedule combines news bulletins and current-affairs programs with morning shows, community features, children’s programming, sports, cultural coverage, movies, and other entertainment. TV8 also carries coverage of major national occasions and sporting events, giving the channel a broad general-interest role within Barbados’ television landscape.
CBC’s television service began in 1964 on Channel 3 from Sturges, Saint Thomas. The studios later moved to The Pine in Saint Michael, while the television service changed to Channel 9 in 1984 and then Channel 8 in 1991. CBC has subsequently introduced digital production and high-definition television as part of the technical development of its television service.
