TV Channel Overview
CBC Television is the English-language television network of CBC/Radio-Canada,
Canada's national public broadcaster. CBC's main English network is based
in Toronto, Ontario, while the corporation's head office is in Ottawa.
The service reaches audiences across Canada through CBC-owned television
stations in cities and regions across the country.
CBC Television began in 1952, when CBC television services were launched in Montreal and Toronto. Its general-interest schedule covers national and regional news and current affairs, drama and comedy, documentaries, children's programs, cultural content, and sports. Programming produced by CBC's regional stations adds coverage of local communities and issues to the national service.
Within Canada's broadcasting system, CBC Television is CBC/Radio-Canada's national English-language public television network. It operates alongside ICI TÉLÉ, the corporation's French-language television network, as part of a public-service mandate that includes reflecting Canada's geographic, cultural, and linguistic diversity. Through this structure, national programming is complemented by reporting and other production from CBC locations in different parts of the country.
