CPAC (Cable Public Affairs Channel) is an independent, not-for-profit, commercial-free television service based in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Broadcasting in both English and French, it focuses on Parliament, politics, public policy, and other public affairs of national interest.
Parliamentary coverage forms the core of CPAC's mandate. The channel carries the complete televised proceedings of the House of Commons and Senate, along with parliamentary committee meetings. CPAC was created by a consortium of Canadian cable companies in 1992, initially as the Cable Parliamentary Channel, with a primary role of carrying House of Commons proceedings. It became a licensed national programming service in 1995 and adopted the Cable Public Affairs Channel name in 1996 as its public affairs programming expanded. CPAC is not affiliated with a government department or agency.
