TV Channel Overview
Global TV is a Canadian English-language commercial television network
based in Toronto, Ontario, and operated by Corus Entertainment. It combines
a national programming schedule with local stations serving markets in
several provinces, giving the network both national and regional dimensions.
Global began broadcasting in 1974, initially serving southern Ontario through a group of transmitters. The network later expanded across Canada, and its conventional television stations now operate in markets across British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia.
Entertainment forms a substantial part of Global's schedule, including drama, comedy, reality and competition formats, daytime programming, and Canadian productions. News is integrated into the network through Global News, which produces national reporting as well as local newscasts, weather, political coverage, and community-focused journalism from regional newsrooms. This combination of national entertainment programming and locally produced news gives Global both a nationwide presence and a regional focus within Canada's commercial television landscape.
