TV Channel Overview
TVA is a Canadian French-language commercial television network based in
Montreal, Quebec. Operated by Groupe TVA, a subsidiary of Québecor Média,
the network is centered on its Montreal station, CFTM-DT, and includes
regional and affiliated stations serving communities across Quebec.
The TVA network began operating in 1971, when stations in Montreal, Quebec City, and Chicoutimi started sharing part of their programming. It subsequently expanded to additional regions of the province. Today, TVA reaches French-speaking audiences throughout Quebec and also serves Francophone communities in other parts of Canada.
Entertainment and Quebec-produced programming form a large part of TVA's general-interest schedule, with drama, variety, reality formats, and other popular program types represented across the network. News and public affairs are also established parts of the service, including national and regional reporting produced within the TVA news organization. Through its combination of province-wide programming and regional stations, TVA maintains a strong connection with French-language audiences and communities across different parts of Quebec.
