TV Channel Overview

APTN (Aboriginal Peoples Television Network) is a national Indigenous-focused television service headquartered in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Launched in 1999, it operates as a general-interest network serving audiences across Canada, with programming centered on Indigenous peoples, communities, cultures, and perspectives.

APTN's schedule includes drama, documentaries, news and current affairs, movies, children's programs, and traditional and cultural content. The network also works with Canadian and Indigenous producers, bringing stories from First Nations, Inuit, and Métis communities into a national television setting. Under current CRTC conditions, APTN is carried as part of the basic service by licensed television distributors across Canada.

Since September 2024, APTN has operated with two national feeds. APTN carries programming predominantly in English and French, while APTN Languages focuses primarily on programs in Indigenous languages such as Anishinaabemowin, Cree, Inuktitut, and Dene. Both feeds serve audiences across Canada, with the main distinction between them being their language focus rather than geographic coverage. The two-feed structure replaced APTN's former regional feeds and created a dedicated national outlet for substantially more Indigenous-language programming.
