TV Channel Overview
Kalaallit Nunaata Radioa (KNR) is Greenland’s national public service radio and television broadcaster, based in Nuuk. Established in 1958 as a radio organization, KNR assumed responsibility for television production in 1982 and has since developed television services for audiences across Greenland.
KNR1 is its principal nationwide television channel, carrying news and current affairs together with cultural, educational, children’s, youth, sports, debate, and entertainment programming. KNR2 serves as an additional channel when simultaneous television coverage is required and is also used for broadcasts from the Inatsisartut, Greenland’s parliament. These services give KNR a central role in national news, public affairs, and locally produced television.
Greenlandic (Kalaallisut) is the main language of KNR’s programming, while Danish is also used in part of its output. Through its television services, KNR reflects Greenlandic society, culture, language, and public life while covering political, social, and cultural developments from communities across the country.
