TV Channel Overview
Canal Once is a Spanish-language public educational and cultural television channel operated by the National Polytechnic Institute (Instituto Politécnico Nacional; IPN) and based in Mexico City, Mexico. Its terrestrial network reaches audiences across much of the country, reflecting its role as a national public television service.
The schedule combines educational and cultural programming with science, documentaries, news, children's programs, music, arts, and public-affairs content. University and polytechnic subjects appear alongside productions that explore Mexican society, history, culture, and contemporary issues. Canal Once also maintains a dedicated children's service, Once Niñas y Niños, extending its educational mission to younger audiences.
Canal Once began broadcasting in 1959 from the IPN's facilities in Mexico City. Its first transmission was a mathematics lesson, and its early schedule included courses in languages and social sciences as well as artistic, literary, and scientific programs. The station developed as Mexico's first public educational and cultural television service and later expanded its terrestrial coverage beyond the capital through additional stations and agreements with public broadcasting partners.
