TV Channel Overview
SEMEI TV («SEMEI» телеарнасы) is a regional television channel based in
Semey, Abai Region, Kazakhstan, and part of the state-owned "Qazaqstan"
Republican TV and Radio Corporation («Қазақстан» республикалық телерадиокорпорациясы;
«Қазақстан» РТРК). Its news and information coverage centers on Semey and
Abai Region. Kazakh is widely used across the schedule, while Russian is
also used, including in regular news bulletins.
Regional news forms a central part of the channel’s output, accompanied by interviews, public-affairs discussions, cultural and historical features, documentaries, entertainment, music, drama series, and children’s programming. Other locally oriented programs examine community issues, public services, education, cultural heritage, notable people, and the history and everyday life of the area.
Television broadcasting in Semey dates to 1965, when the Semipalatinsk television studio transmitted its first official program. The channel later operated under the name Kazakhstan Semey and adopted the name SEMEI in 2017 during a wider rebranding of Qazaqstan’s regional television services. The re-establishment of Abai Region in 2022 opened a new stage in the station’s regional broadcasting activities.
