TV Channel Overview
Mongolian National Broadcaster (MNB / Монголын Үндэсний Олон Нийтийн Радио Телевиз / МҮОНРТ) is Mongolia’s national public-service broadcaster, headquartered in Bayangol District, Ulaanbaatar. Its roots extend to Mongolian Radio, which began broadcasting in Ulaanbaatar in 1931 and expanded nationwide in 1934. Regular television broadcasting began in 1967. Under the Public Radio and Television Law adopted in 2005, MNB was reorganized as a nonprofit public-service broadcaster serving the public interest.
MNB operates nationwide radio and television services with a remit covering information, education, culture, and entertainment. Its principal television service presents news and current affairs together with documentaries, cultural and educational programs, entertainment, children’s content, and other public-interest programming for audiences across Mongolia.
The broadcaster currently operates five television channels with distinct roles. MNB is the main national public television channel, providing a broad general-interest schedule and coverage of Mongolian society, culture, history, and civic life. MNB Mongolian News concentrates on news and current affairs, including regular bulletins and reporting on political, social, economic, and regional developments.
MNB Sports, established in 2018, focuses on domestic and international sports, including competition coverage, sports news, national sports traditions, and programs related to physical education and public health. MNB Family, launched in 2020, serves children, young people, families, older adults, and people with disabilities, with programming on education, health, family life, culture, history, traditions, legal awareness, and practical knowledge. MNB World is MNB’s English-language international channel, presenting news and programs about Mongolia’s history, cultural heritage, traditions, arts, travel, nature, and contemporary society for audiences abroad.
Through these services, MNB combines general public broadcasting with specialized news, sports, family, and international programming within a single national public-service organization.
