TV Channel Overview
SBS is a South Korean private commercial broadcaster headquartered in Yangcheon District, Seoul. SBS refers to the broadcasting organization, while SBS TV is its principal terrestrial general-interest television channel. The company was established in 1990, began radio broadcasting in 1991, and launched SBS TV later that year. SBS TV carries news and current affairs, drama, entertainment, documentaries, sports, cultural programs, and other information content.
SBS TV serves the Seoul Capital Area and forms the Seoul-based part of a wider private terrestrial television network. SBS launched its national network in 1995, initially working with regional broadcasters in Busan, Daegu, Gwangju, and Daejeon. The present network connects SBS with nine regional private broadcasters: G1 in Gangwon, KBC in Gwangju, TBC in Daegu, TJB in Daejeon, KNN in Busan, UBC in Ulsan, JTV in Jeonju, CJB in Cheongju, and JIBS in Jeju. These regional stations carry SBS network programming while also producing local news and other content for their respective areas.
Beyond the terrestrial SBS TV network, the broader SBS media group includes a range of specialty television channels. SBS Plus and SBS funE concentrate largely on entertainment and variety programming. Other specialty services include SBS Sports, SBS Golf, SBS Golf2, SBS Biz, which focuses on business and economic information, and SBS Life, which carries lifestyle, information, and entertainment content.
SBS also operates radio services and works through affiliated companies involved in program production, advertising, digital media, and content distribution. This structure distinguishes the Seoul-based terrestrial SBS TV channel from the wider SBS organization, its regional television network, and its group of genre-focused specialty channels.
