Many of Bulgaria’s national and specialized television services are based in Sofia, where Bulgarian-language public and commercial broadcasters operate alongside channels devoted to news, public affairs, business, and general programming. The public broadcaster BNT provides nationwide services, while the broadcasters represented here highlight another part of the media sector: commercial general-interest television and several news- and business-oriented channels, including Nova TV, Bulgaria ON AIR, Bloomberg TV Bulgaria, Euronews Bulgaria, and Evrokom.
Programming focus provides a useful way to distinguish these Sofia-based services. Squid TV’s editorial profiles identify whether a channel concentrates on general programming, current affairs, political discussion, business, or financial news, while also recording its location, language, and broader role. Comparing these broadcasters shows how the capital functions as an important center for Bulgarian television and how different forms of news, economic reporting, public debate, and commercial programming contribute to the country’s media environment.
