TV Channel Overview
Eesti Rahvusringhääling (ERR) is Estonia’s national public broadcasting organization, headquartered in Tallinn. It was established in its present form in 2007 through the merger of Eesti Televisioon and Eesti Raadio. ERR operates public television, radio, news, and digital media services, with its television division built around three channels: ETV, ETV2, and ETV+.
ETV, which began broadcasting in 1955, is ERR’s main general-interest television channel. Its schedule combines national news and current affairs with cultural programming, documentaries, entertainment, sports, and coverage of major public events. It also carries selected acquired films and series alongside programs produced in Estonia.
ETV2, launched in 2008, has a different emphasis. Children’s and youth programming, education, culture, documentaries, films, television series, and sports form key parts of its schedule. The channel gives particular space to cultural and educational content and to programming for younger viewers.
ETV+ began broadcasting in 2015 as ERR’s Russian-language television channel. It is aimed primarily at Russian-speaking audiences in Estonia, with programming centered on local news, discussion and current affairs, culture, entertainment, sports, and selected international content. Its news and discussion output focuses strongly on events and issues within Estonia.
Together, the three channels allow ERR to combine broad public-service television with more specialized cultural, educational, children’s, and Russian-language programming.
