Luxembourg’s multilingual society gives its television media a distinctive
linguistic setting. Luxembourgish is the national language, while French
and German also have established roles in public life; on domestic radio
and television, Luxembourgish has a particularly visible presence. RTL
Lëtzebuerg, based in Luxembourg City, reflects that national context through
television services including RTL and RTL Zwee, with news, information,
entertainment, sport, and other programming for audiences in the country.
Squid TV’s Luxembourg coverage centers on this broadcaster and the different functions of its television services. Information on language, programming focus, location, and media background helps place RTL Lëtzebuerg within the country’s wider multilingual environment. Through that perspective, television becomes one point of entry into how Luxembourgish language, national news, public discussion, and everyday cultural life are represented in a small but highly multilingual European state.
