STVR, officially Slovenská televízia a rozhlas, is Slovakia’s national
public broadcaster headquartered in Bratislava. It was launched on 1 July
2024 as the successor to Rozhlas a televízia Slovenska (RTVS), known in
English as Radio and Television of Slovakia.
STVR operates the nationwide television channels Jednotka (:1) – a general-interest channel covering news, entertainment, children’s programmes and major sports; Dvojka (:2) – focused on documentaries, culture, niche audiences and original-version foreign films with Slovak subtitles; :Šport – a dedicated 24-hour sports channel; and :24 – a rolling news channel launched in 2022.
In addition to television, STVR runs a suite of radio stations including Rádio Slovensko (generalist), Rádio FM (young-audience), Rádio Devín (classical & culture), Rádio Regina (regional), Rádio Patria (Hungarian-language service) and Radio Slovakia International (multilingual).
STVR is a member of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and maintains service platforms across broadcast, satellite, DAB and online streaming to reach audiences domestically and abroad.
The formation of STVR followed legislative reforms of Slovakia’s public media sector; the transition from RTVS to STVR has drawn attention in discussions about public-service media independence and governance.
Live streams [ ( Live :1 → Jednotka), ( Live :2 →Dvojka), ( Live :24 → :24) , etc. ] can be viewed via its official website.
