TV Channel Overview
Calcutta Television Network (CTVN) is a Bengali-language television network
based in Birati, North Dum Dum, in the Kolkata metropolitan area of West
Bengal, India. Its current television services are CTVN AKD Plus and Calcutta
News, both operated by Calcutta Television Network Private Limited. The
network traces its origins to a local cable operation established in 1999
and later expanded into satellite television.
CTVN AKD Plus, launched in 2006, carries a broader mix of news, information, lifestyle, cultural, educational, health, and entertainment-oriented content. Calcutta News, introduced in 2016, is focused more specifically on news and current affairs, with reporting on West Bengal as well as national and international developments.
Together, the two services give CTVN a regional focus centered on Kolkata and West Bengal while also addressing subjects relevant to Bengali-speaking communities elsewhere in India. Politics and public affairs form part of the network’s output, alongside sport, society, culture, health, education, and other general-interest subjects. This combination of a broader regional service and a dedicated news channel defines the present television structure of Calcutta Television Network.
