TV Channel Overview
Bahrain Radio and Television Corporation (BRTC) is Bahrain’s government-owned national broadcasting organization, operating within the country’s Ministry of Information structure. Based in Isa Town, Bahrain, it brings together national television and radio services. Its television output is primarily in Arabic, with a separate English-language service. Television broadcasting in Bahrain began in 1973, providing the historical foundation for the country’s present state television system.
BRTC’s television services comprise six channels, each serving a different
programming role. Bahrain TV (BTV / قناة البحرين) is an Arabic-language general channel carrying news and programs related
to Bahraini society, culture, heritage, and public life. Bahrain International
(قناة البحرين الدولية) provides English-language programming. Bahrain Lawal (بحرين لول) focuses on archival and heritage-oriented content, including older television
programs, drama, arts, and material reflecting Bahrain’s cultural and broadcasting
history. Quran Kareem (القرآن الكريم) is dedicated to Islamic religious programming centered on the Holy Quran.
Bahrain Sport 1 (البحرين الرياضية 1) and Bahrain Sport 2 (البحرين الرياضية 2) concentrate on sports programming and coverage of
competitions and events.
These television services form part of a wider national broadcasting system that also includes radio. Regular Arabic radio broadcasting in Bahrain dates to 1955, while the country’s first English-language radio station began in 1977. Together, BRTC’s television and radio operations cover general programming, news, culture, heritage, religion, and sports within Bahrain’s state broadcasting structure.
