TV Channel Overview
Gali Kurdistan TV (GK TV / کەناڵی ئاسمانی گەلی کوردستان) is a Kurdish-language television channel based in Sulaymaniyah, in the
Kurdistan Region of Iraq. It operates as one of the media institutions
of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK). Its editorial scope combines
news and public affairs with programs dealing with society, culture, women,
the environment, law, sports, and other general-interest subjects.
Regional reporting is a central part of the channel's work. News coverage follows developments across the Kurdistan Region and Iraq, while the organization also maintains correspondents in other parts of the region and abroad. Current programming reflects a general-format schedule rather than a purely news-only service, with discussion, cultural, social, and topical programs appearing alongside regular news output.
The channel began local broadcasting in Sulaymaniyah in 1991. In 2008, it expanded to satellite broadcasting in both Sorani and Kurmanji Kurdish. These two stages connect the station's origins in local Kurdish television with its later role as a broader Kurdish-language television service based in Sulaymaniyah.
