TV Channel Overview
Tele Liban (TL; تلفزيون لبنان) is Lebanon’s state-owned national television network, based in Beirut. It serves viewers across the country and broadcasts primarily in Arabic, while French is also used in part of its news output. As a national service, the channel covers Lebanese affairs as well as wider regional and international developments.
Its programming combines news and current affairs with entertainment, drama, cultural programs, documentaries, talk programs, and other general-interest content. Social and educational topics also form part of its output, giving the channel a broad schedule intended for a nationwide audience.
Television broadcasting in Lebanon began in 1959 with Compagnie Libanaise de Télévision, followed by Télé-Orient in 1961. The two companies were later merged, and Tele Liban was established in 1977. The Lebanese state subsequently became the sole shareholder in 1996. Tele Liban therefore occupies a distinct place in Lebanon’s television landscape as the country’s state-owned national television service alongside privately operated broadcasters.
