TV Channel Overview
The Turkish Radio Television Corporation (TRT; Türkiye Radyo Televizyon
Kurumu) is Turkey’s public service broadcaster, headquartered in Çankaya
District, Ankara, Turkey. It operates national and international television,
radio, and digital services. Turkish is the principal language across its
domestic television services, while individual channels also use English,
Arabic, Kurdish (Kurmanji and Sorani), Zazaki, and Turkic languages including
Azerbaijani, Kazakh, Kyrgyz, Uzbek, and Turkmen.
TRT’s television services cover a broad range of public-service and general-interest content. News and current affairs are handled through dedicated services alongside drama, entertainment, culture, arts, documentaries, sports, children’s programs, education, music, and parliamentary coverage. International channels extend this structure to audiences outside Turkey, while language-focused services address different linguistic and regional audiences.
TRT was established in 1964 under a special law to carry out public radio and television broadcasting. TRT began television test broadcasts in Ankara in 1968. The organization later expanded from a single television service into a multi-channel system, and its current television portfolio includes 18 channels serving general, thematic, educational, and international roles.
TRT 1 is the main general-interest channel, combining drama, entertainment, culture, education, sports, cinema, and news.
TRT 2 focuses on culture and the arts, including literature, history, philosophy, music, cinema, theater, and visual arts.
TRT Haber is a Turkish-language news channel covering national and international developments and current affairs.
TRT Spor centers on sports coverage, sports news, analysis, and competitions across football and other disciplines.
TRT Spor Yıldız gives greater space to a wide range of sports, including national and international events and less widely covered disciplines.
TRT Belgesel is a documentary channel featuring subjects such as people, nature, society, culture, and life in different regions.
TRT Çocuk is a children’s channel combining entertainment with educational and developmental content.

TRT Kurdî is a Kurdish-language family channel broadcasting in Kurmanji, Zazaki, and Sorani, with news, culture, entertainment, and other general-interest programs.
TRT Türk is directed mainly toward Turkish-speaking audiences living abroad, with drama, documentaries, culture, arts, discussion, and entertainment.
TRT World is TRT’s English-language international news channel, covering global news and current affairs for an international audience.
TRT Arabi is an Arabic-language international news channel covering regional and global developments.
TRT EBA provides curriculum-based educational television content for school students from primary through secondary education.
TRT 4K carries selected TRT programming, including sports, documentaries, cinema, and drama, in ultra-high-definition format.
TRT 3 carries TBMM TV programming, including news from the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye and broadcasts of parliamentary plenary sessions.
TRT 1 provides broad national programming, while dedicated channels focus on news, culture and the arts, documentaries, sports, music, children’s content, education, and parliamentary proceedings. TRT World and TRT Arabi address international audiences in English and Arabic, while TRT Türk, TRT Kurdî, and TRT Avaz serve audiences connected by language, culture, or ties to Turkey and the wider Turkic world.
