Sharjah Broadcasting Authority (SBA; هيئة الشارقة للإذاعة والتلفزيون) is a government broadcasting organization based in Sharjah, Emirate of Sharjah, United Arab Emirates. Its responsibilities include operating and developing audiovisual and digital media in the emirate, with television services covering local affairs, culture, heritage, sports, religion, education, and community life. Arabic is the main language across the television network, while Sharjah 2 also carries programs in English, Urdu, Persian, and Swahili.SBA’s television division currently comprises six services.
Sharjah TV (تلفزيون الشارقة) is the authority’s main general channel, combining news and public affairs with cultural, educational, social, religious, documentary, drama, and entertainment programming, with particular attention to Sharjah and Emirati identity.
Sharjah Sports (قناة الشارقة الرياضية) is a dedicated sports channel covering competitions in Sharjah, the UAE, and beyond, supported by sports news, interviews, studio discussion, and analysis.
Al Sharqiya from Kalba (قناة الشرقية من كلباء) serves Sharjah’s Eastern Region, including Kalba, Khorfakkan, and Dibba Al Hisn, with programming centered on local society, heritage, culture, education, environment, and regional development.
Al Wusta from Al Dhaid (قناة الوسطى من الذيد) focuses on Sharjah’s Central Region, documenting Bedouin heritage, local history, community life, development, culture, religion, and regional events.
Sharjah 2 (الشارقة 2) is a multilingual channel serving non-Arabic-speaking communities as well as Arabic-speaking audiences, with religious, cultural, social, and community programming in Arabic, English, Urdu, Persian, and Swahili.
Holy Quran Channel from Sharjah (قناة القرآن الكريم من الشارقة), launched in 2024, is devoted to Quran recitation, Quranic studies, Islamic jurisprudence, prayers, and related educational programming.
SBA’s television history reaches back to 1989, when Sharjah TV began broadcasting. Al Sharqiya from Kalba followed in 2014 and Al Wusta from Al Dhaid in 2016, extending television coverage to the emirate’s eastern and central regions. The authority’s present institutional framework is set out in Sharjah legislation adopted in 2019 and amended in 2021, which assigns SBA responsibility for developing audiovisual and digital media across the emirate. The addition of the Holy Quran Channel in 2024 expanded the television network into a dedicated Quranic service.
