TV Channel Overview
CH200 (Channel 200), formerly branded as Kordia TV, is a Kordia-operated
community-access television channel in New Zealand. Its schedule is built
largely from programming supplied by New Zealand producers, organizations,
and community groups rather than from a conventional station-produced lineup.
Its broadcast coverage extends nationwide by satellite, while UHF terrestrial
transmission serves selected areas including Auckland, Waikato, Wellington,
Canterbury, and Dunedin.
Accessibility is a distinctive part of the channel’s activities. CH200
works with Deaf Aotearoa and iSign to present New Zealand Sign Language
(NZSL) interpretation for major events and media briefings, with the interpreter
shown full-screen.
Beyond this accessibility programming, music occupies a substantial part
of CH200’s schedule. A major presence is Juice TV, an independent New Zealand
music television service carried on Channel 200, featuring a wide range
of music programming. The CH200 schedule also highlights content covering
new local releases, rock, and music from different decades, together with
cultural and religious programming. Examples include The Plug, featuring
new music from New Zealand; China Matters, presenting short films on Chinese
culture, tourism, and development; and Hope Centre, combining Christian
music with religious messages.
CH200 has also been used for temporary and community-focused broadcasting.
During the COVID-19 period in 2020, Kordia made airtime on Channel 200
available to nonprofit organizations and community groups, enabling them
to communicate their own television content when normal gatherings and
activities were disrupted. That episode illustrates the flexible role the
channel can play alongside its regular schedule of independently supplied
programming.
