Overview
Access Sacramento is a nonprofit community media center based in Sacramento,
California, dedicated to empowering residents of Sacramento County through
media education, production resources, and open broadcast platforms. It
offers classes, equipment access, and studio facilities so local producers
can create their own television and internet programs.
The organization’s mission is to “lift all voices” by providing tools and opportunities for creative expression, public dialogue, and civic engagement outside the scope of commercial media.
Locally produced content is broadcast on Channel 17, known as “The Sacramento Channel,” which features a wide range of community-focused programming including public affairs, local events, cultural content, and grassroots shows that reflect Sacramento’s diverse population.
Meanwhile, Channel 18, often referred to as “The Open Channel,” serves as a free-speech outlet where members’ productions and locally originated content are shared with the community, offering an accessible platform for independent voices.
Both of these channels are available over local cable systems and are also streamed live and on demand through the Access Sacramento website.
Live streams ( → Watch ∨ → Watch Now 17 / Watch Now 18 ) and on-demand videos are available on its official website.
