TV Channel Overview
KOAA-TV, known as KOAA News5, is an NBC-affiliated television station serving
Southern Colorado, including Colorado Springs and Pueblo. The station reports
on local and regional developments, public safety, politics, consumer issues,
community affairs, and sports, while its weather team provides forecasts,
radar information, alerts, and school closing updates for communities across
the region.
KOAA began broadcasting from Pueblo on June 29, 1953, under the call sign KCSJ. The station adopted the KOAA call letters eight years later after being purchased by the owners of Denver’s KOA-TV. In 1969, it became the first television station in the region to broadcast in color and expanded its daily news coverage.
Today, KOAA operates from a broadcast facility in Colorado Springs while maintaining its long-standing connection with Pueblo. As Southern Colorado’s NBC affiliate, it combines locally produced news and information with programming supplied by the NBC network.
