TV Channel Overview
WPLG (Local 10) is an English-language independent television station licensed to Miami, with studios in Pembroke Park, Florida, United States. Serving South Florida, the station focuses on Miami-Dade and Broward counties, the Florida Keys, and surrounding communities through local news, weather, sports, traffic, and reporting on civic and community affairs.
The station first signed on in 1957 as WPST-TV and became WPLG in 1970. For decades it operated as an ABC affiliate, but that affiliation ended in August 2025. WPLG then continued as an independent local station under the Local 10 identity, with a schedule placing greater emphasis on locally produced newscasts and other regional programming alongside syndicated and general-interest content.
WPLG’s reporting is closely tied to South Florida, where hurricane preparedness, severe weather, public safety, transportation, local government, and regional sports are recurring areas of coverage. The 2025 transition ended its long ABC affiliation while WPLG remained focused on regional journalism and locally oriented programming for audiences across the broader South Florida television market.
