TV Channel Overview
Community Media of Staten Island (CMSI) is a nonprofit public-access media
organization serving Staten Island, New York City. Formerly Staten Island
Community Television (SICTV), it traces its origins to 1983 and opened
its permanent facility in 1988. CMSI provides channel space, production
facilities, equipment, and training for eligible Staten Island residents
and people affiliated with local nonprofit organizations.
Its television service is organized across four public-access channels: Your 34, Variety, Religion & Spirituality, and Civic Engagement. Programming is created by local individuals, groups, organizations, and CMSI staff, with subjects ranging from community affairs and civic participation to religion, culture, entertainment, and other locally produced material. The Civic Engagement channel also carries public meetings and other programming connected with local government and community institutions.
CMSI operates as a noncommercial community media resource, supporting local producers from program development through production and cablecast. Its channels provide a platform for Staten Island-focused programming while its facilities and training help community members create their own television content.
