TV Channel Overview
CBS News is the national news division of CBS in the United States, based in New York City, New York. It produces reporting for the CBS television network and covers domestic and international events through correspondents, bureaus, and editorial teams working across the organization.
Its journalism spans national and international news, U.S. politics and government, public affairs, investigative reporting, business and economic developments, and major breaking events. Within CBS News and Stations, national reporting is also connected with journalism produced by CBS-owned local television stations, bringing local and national perspectives into the wider news operation.
The organization’s roots reach back to the early years of CBS radio. CBS began as a radio network in 1927, and a dedicated news department was established in 1930. Radio reporting became a foundation for the company’s later television journalism as CBS expanded into network television. CBS News continues to serve as the news operation associated with the CBS broadcast network, combining national newsgathering with reporting from correspondents and local newsrooms in the United States.
