TV Channel Overview
NBC News, based in New York City, New York, is NBC’s national news organization in the United States and operates within NBCUniversal News Group. Its newsroom and correspondents report on events across the country and internationally for the NBC broadcast network.
The organization covers U.S. politics and government, public affairs, investigations, business and economic developments, health, science, international affairs, and major breaking events. Reporting is produced through national desks, field correspondents, and bureaus, giving NBC News a newsgathering structure that combines network-level journalism with reporting from different locations.
NBC’s television news operations developed during the early years of American television. In 1948, NBC began airing NBC Television Newsreel, the first regularly scheduled television news broadcast in the United States. From those early network newscasts, NBC News expanded its domestic and international reporting operations as television became a national news medium. It serves as the news organization associated with the NBC broadcast network and forms part of the broader NBCUniversal News Group.
