TV Channel Overview
SERTV is Panama’s state public-service television service, based in Altos de Curundú, Panama City, Panama Province. It forms part of the Sistema Estatal de Radio y Televisión, a public-law entity created in 2005 to organize the country’s state radio and television services.
The television operation developed from earlier educational broadcasting initiatives. A closed-circuit television service began at the University of Panama in 1967, followed by educational television activities in 1971. Canal 11 began broadcasting in 1978, and the service later became part of SERTV under the 2005 legal framework.
SERTV combines news and public affairs with educational, cultural, documentary, sports, and entertainment programming. Its output also covers civic activities, national events, Panamanian history, traditions, and other subjects connected with public and cultural life. Spanish runs throughout the television schedule, from news and public affairs to educational and cultural content. Alongside television, the wider SERTV organization also operates public radio services as part of Panama’s state media system.
