TV Asahi (TV Asahi Corporation / 株式会社テレビ朝日) is a private commercial television
broadcaster headquartered in Roppongi, Minato, Tokyo, Japan. Its terrestrial
service covers the Kanto region, and it serves as the key station of the
nationwide All-Nippon News Network (ANN), coordinating news coverage with
affiliated broadcasters across Japan.
The station began regular broadcasting in 1959 as Nippon Educational Television (NET), originally operating as an educational television service. In 1973, it shifted from educational specialization to general programming, and the TV Asahi name was adopted in 1977.
Today, TV Asahi carries a broad general-interest schedule spanning news and current affairs, information and documentary programs, drama, variety and entertainment, music, anime, sports, and lifestyle subjects. News remains closely connected with the ANN network, while the station also develops entertainment and scripted programming from its Roppongi base. Its present-day role combines broadcasting for the Kanto region with nationwide news coordination and program distribution through affiliated stations across Japan.
