TV Channel Overview
TV Tokyo (テレビ東京), formally TV TOKYO Corporation (株式会社テレビ東京), is a private commercial broadcaster headquartered in Roppongi, Minato, Tokyo, Japan. Its terrestrial service covers the Kanto region, and it is the key station of TXN, a six-station network linking broadcasters in several of Japan’s major metropolitan areas.
The broadcaster began in 1964 as Tokyo Channel 12, with an original emphasis on science education. In 1973, it moved from educational specialization to general programming, and the TV Tokyo name was adopted in 1981.
Economic and business journalism is a prominent part of TV Tokyo’s programming, with regular coverage of domestic and international markets, corporate activity, industry trends, finance, and the broader economy. Alongside this reporting, the station carries drama, variety and entertainment, anime, sports, travel and food programs, and documentaries. Anime is also a distinctive area of its content production. As the key station of TXN, TV Tokyo works with affiliated broadcasters outside the Kanto region in news and program networking, combining regional broadcasting with network programming and content production.
