Television in Uzbekistan is shaped by the relationship between OʻzMTRK’s nationwide state network and privately operated channels based mainly in Tashkent. OʻzMTRK combines central services devoted to news, culture, education, sports, youth, children, film, and music with regional television across the country. Alongside it, Uzreport TV focuses on news, current affairs, and business, while Milliy TV provides general entertainment. Uzbek is the main broadcasting language, with Russian also widely used and Karakalpak represented within the state network.
Squid TV’s editorial profiles highlight the different roles of these broadcasters through their institutional background, programming priorities, languages, locations, and geographic reach. Comparing these characteristics helps distinguish state and private television while also showing how national and regional services contribute to Uzbekistan’s wider media environment.
