A useful way to understand Latvia’s television media is to follow how regional stories move between local and national settings. Public television services LTV1 and LTV7 address audiences across the country with news, culture, documentaries, education, sports, and entertainment. ReTV adds another dimension by working with regional television producers and bringing reporting and programs from different parts of Latvia to a nationwide audience. Vidusdaugavas Televīzija, based in Jēkabpils, represents the more local end of this structure, focusing on community information, regional affairs, and cultural life.
Squid TV traces these different levels of television through each broadcaster’s base, coverage, programming focus, and role within the media environment. Looking from nationwide public television to a channel built around regional contributions and then to a locally based station offers a practical perspective on how television connects Latvia’s national conversation with the experiences of individual regions and communities.
