TV Channel Overview
IRIB TV1 (شبکه یک سیما) is a Persian-language national general television channel operated by
Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), based in Tehran, Iran. It
serves audiences across the country with a broad schedule that combines
news and public affairs with cultural, social, religious, documentary,
drama, entertainment, and other general-interest programming.
As a national general channel, TV1 covers a wide range of subjects connected with public life in Iran. Public-policy discussions, documentary programs, religious and cultural content, television drama, and coverage of national events all appear within its schedule. Sports-related segments and other topical programs are also included alongside regular news and information programming.
IRIB TV1 traces its roots to the introduction of television broadcasting in Iran in 1958, when the country’s first television service began in Tehran. Television was later incorporated into a nationwide broadcasting system, which was reorganized after the 1979 Iranian Revolution under what became IRIB. TV1 therefore has a historically distinct place within Iran’s television system as the continuation of the country’s earliest television service.
