TV Channel Overview
Qatar Television (QTV; تلفزيون قطر) is the official government television service of Qatar, based in Doha.
It operates under Qatar Media Corporation (QMC), the umbrella organization
for the country’s official television and radio services, and serves a
national audience through three television channels.
Qatar Channel 1 is the main general-interest service, combining news and current affairs with national events, social and cultural programs, religious content, drama, entertainment, and family-oriented programming. Qatar Channel 2 operates as a separate companion service within the current Qatar Television lineup. Qatar TV - Holy Quran, launched in 2026, is a specialized religious channel devoted to Quran recitation and Islamic programming, with an emphasis on Qatari reciters and religious content produced within the country.
Qatar Television began broadcasting in 1970 in black and white, followed by color broadcasting in 1974. A second channel was introduced in 1982, while satellite transmission of the first channel began in 1998. The service later developed within Qatar Media Corporation, which today oversees Qatar Television as part of Qatar’s official broadcasting system.
