Overview
National Media Authority (الهيئة الوطنية للإعلام / NMA) is Egypt's public broadcasting body responsible for the management
of state television and radio services. It continues the institutional
role historically associated with the Egyptian Radio and Television Union
(ERTU), overseeing a nationwide network of channels with a public service
mandate. The authority is headquartered in Cairo at the well-known Maspero
Building along the Nile, a long-standing center of Egypt's broadcasting
operations. The name "Maspero" is also commonly used as a shorthand
reference to the organization itself.
NMA supervises a broad portfolio of terrestrial and satellite television services. Core national channels such as Egyptian Channel 1 (القناة الأولى المصرية) and Egyptian Channel 2 (القناة الثانية المصرية) provide general programming, including news bulletins, official events, cultural features, and entertainment content. Alongside these, a range of specialized channels has been developed to address different audience segments and subject areas.
Among the widely recognized services are Nile News (قناة النيل للأخبار), a dedicated news channel covering domestic and international developments, and Nile Drama (قناة نايل دراما), which focuses on Egyptian television series. Maspero Zaman (ماسبيرو زمان) presents archival material drawn from historical broadcasts, reflecting
the country's television heritage. International-facing services include
Nile TV International, which offers multilingual programming, and Egyptian
Satellite Channel (الفضائية المصرية), aimed at audiences across the Middle East, North Africa, and expatriate communities.
